Fragrant plants

Question
I am trying to find out what kind of fragrant flowering bushes and trees will do well in the lower southeast section of Texas?  Galveston, Tx area.  I love lilac bushes but do not know if they would survive the hot temperatures of Texas.  Need the kind that will tolerate lots of sun, some shade and heat.  Thanks.

Answer
BJ,
Check your local garden centers for the following plants: Ceanothus, Osmanthus, Photinia, Parkinsonia, and Pittosporum.
There are several species of each of these that are hardy to zone 10 and fragrant.  Also, Sophora secundiflora (Texas mountain laurel) is another possibility.

I hope this helps!
C.L.
