taking cuttings from geraniums

Question
hi kenneth,
i was wondering  if there is a tried and tested method of taking and growing geranium cuttings successfully. i haven't tried myself yet, but i know people who have tried various methods but to no avail.
any tips as i would like to try myself at the end of the flowering season.
thanks, sarah

Answer
Just cut a 4-6" piece of a tip and stick it in MOIST potting soil (preferably a seed starting mixture). Keep it moist, never dry and never soaked/saturated. It is best if you can enclose the cutting in a make-shift plastic tent to increase humidity (for example a wire hanger bend to keep plastic off the cutting and then enclose the entire pot in a plastic bag).

Check every 2-3 days. should root in 14-30 days. The cutting should be kept out of direct sunlight and in moderate temperatures (room temperatures).

Good luck

Remember: moist - never dry. not consistently saturated/soaked.

diffused light - not dark, but not direct sunlight either.

increase humdity by enclosing in plastic

check every few days.

rooting in 14-30 days.
