Roses not opening

Question
Jim,

I live in South Louisiana.I have a hybrid rose and it's growing really well with lots of blooms, but the flowers won't open. They get big around but stay closed. Can you tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Answer
Your roses have thrips-
Thrip. Buds turn brown and do not open, or are distorted. Thrip are feeding on the plant's juices Control with a dust or spray, following the manufacturer's directions. Spray directly into opening buds. Check with your local garden/nursery type store for an insecticide spray for thrips on roses.
