Shrub Diseases

Question
Hello, I live in Memphis Tennessee.

My question concerns a shrub that I believe is a similiar to a Leland Cypress but is a Drawf version (only grows to about 8 feet high.  I live in a town home and have two, one planted on either side of my front door stoop.  They have a southern exposure.

Both came out luscious and green.  Each has been in the ground since spring 2001.  I have been living in another location since 2002 and move back in this townhome last April.

One of the shurbs started to turn brown at the top side facing the house.  As the shrub turns brown the lacey leaves seem to wilt into a cocoon like glob and fall off.

At first I though they were getting to much sun and not enough water so I started a watering regimen.  The rest of the plant in the same beds seem to be doing well.  (Drawf Nandinas, dwarf Goldmound spireas, some volunteer gladiolis, and a few stella d'oras and of course some grass.  The brown area is growing and the tree is wilting away in to cocoon like droplets.  There are no visible pests. I do not know what to do.

Can you help me.

Thanks

Answer
From what you discribe it is difficult to ID the problem withour seeing the tree. I would suggest you contact either the Memphis City Urban Forester or Christy Pepper, Department of Agriculture, Forestry Division, Memphis. Christy's contact information is:  [email protected]

(901) 754-5185 (o)
(901) 685-3905 (f)

I do not know the contact information of The Urban Forester of Memphis but I think his name is Chris Latt.
They should be able to help you.
