Mushrooms in Meyers (improved) Dwarf Lemon Tree

Question
Hello, in my search I see that you may have answered this question before, but unfortunately I cannot find the answer within your site.  I re-potted my dwarf Meyer Lemon tree about 4 weeks ago.  I noticed some white "rocks".  When I looked closer I realized they are mushrooms growing in the soil around the tree. Is the tree salvageable?  Are these mushroom poisonous?  If salvageable, how should I treat this?

Answer
Hi Kim,

Mushrooms are a natural decomposer.  The mushrooms will do no harm to your Meyer's Lemon.  They provide a valuable recycling of nutrients from the decomposing organics in the mulch and soil.  If they are unsightly, remove them, otherwise they will eventually dry up and disappear.  They will probably send out spores, so you may see some very fine dust around the mushrooms from time to time as the spores are released.  They are not harmful.  It is very, very unlikely that the mushroom is poisonous.  If you have pets, you may want to keep them away just in case.

No specific treatment is necessary.
