Question
Hi I have a gardenia bush about 3 ft high it flowered nicely all summer and until the first cold night, some of the leaves start turning yellow, so I took it inside, now the leave are turning black. What can I do to cure it.

Answer
Hi Yvon...the plant went into some mild leaf loss due to the cold.  It is happening on all gardenias this time of year.  It also makes room for new leaves to appear.  The reason your leaves are turning black is that you are watering too much.  You may need to get a water meter from the local nursery to help you check to see when the plant it dry.  Gardenias can take quite a bit of cold but I have no idea where you live.  I would set the plant outside as long as it is above freezing whenever possible for a breath of fresh air.  Also if you are keeping a basin under your plant inside you must remove all water in the basin after 15 minutes as it rots the roots.  Happy Gardening kathy
