pod-like balls on wild rose bush

Question
Hello! I was trimming my wild rose back when i found on the underside of the leaves these pod-like "gourds" 1/2 cm -11/2cm big. The leaves were infested! They looked like a plant species..like tiny gourds..we broke one open and there was a tiny white worm in each one..What are these???? Should i be worried???

Answer
I am not an entomologist, but I would be concerned.  They probably arent there for nothing. I would treat the plant with Bayer Advanced Tree and Shrub Insecticide.  This product is mixed with water and poured on the soil around the base of the plant.  It is taken up systemically and will kill the bugs within a week or so.  It also provides protection from reinfestation for up to a year.  Whatever the bug is, this stuff should protect the plant.  I would not re-treat unless you see other problems.  The product can be used on many plant species around the house.  Good Luck.
