Princess flower yellow leaves

Question
Hi, my princess flower tree has some yellow leaves and hasn't flowered yet (we live in the SF bay area).  It is about seven feet tall and receives moderate sun.  Could this be due to lack of nutrition?  If so, how can it be remedied?
Thanks for your help.

Answer
There could be many causes for this situation.  Lack of phosphorus could be a cause, as plants need phosphorus in order to make flower buds and flowers.  There could be other reasons, such as amount of sunlight and even nightime temperatures.  You may try giving the tree some slow release osmocote fertilizer designed for trees and woody ornamentals.  This may help this year, but surely cant hurt for next year.  Good Luck.
