Webs on Bushes

Question
David -
During the month of August/September each year, I get what look like small cobwebs all over the bushes and trees in my front yard. My neighbors do not have them and if I get rid of them (by using a clean paint roller), they come back within a day or two.

I live in Atlanta GA with a urban area but in a neighborhood.

Thank you!

Answer
The webs may actually be spiders or they could be webworms.  The webworms will usually make the web structures at the tips of branches on trees.  They can be controlled with insecticides, although people usually do nothing and they will not kill plants.  You will have to try to determine which it is that you have.  You can use an insecticide sprayed on the soil surface under the plants to prevent spiders.  Let me know if this does not seem to be the case and we can go in a different direction.  Thanks.
