Calamondin plant

Question
I received a Calamondin  plant for a present and from the beginning it has had  leaves that curled up.........It does not seem to have any other problems (bugs etc.) it just looks unhealthy because of the curling of the leaves....I live in Michigan and had it outdoors all summer but it did not improve.......I used to live in Florida and had trees in the yard which grew successfully and produced a great deal of fruit....this is an entirely different situation and I need some advice......thank you in advance.

Answer
Hi Connie...  What you have is the leaf minor that is in Florida and probably all over the world.  I have it all over my trees in the summer, as the leaf minor goes to sleep in the winter the new leaves come out nice and then they shed most of their leaves in the spring as the fruit and flowers come and then it starts all over again.  I have lots of fruit trees, looks ugly for a while and life goes on.  You can cut off the undesirable leaves and look at the old growth, however, you may loose your fall fruit if you do.  You can spray it every seven days and every time a new leaf comes out and that is lots of work.  You can grow a orange jasmine next to it, maybe the minors will go to that first, that is if you can find one, they are banned in Florida.  Go green and let nature do its thing, I have never lost a plant to a bug, I grow organically.
