Crookneck Squash Question

Question
The vast majority of my squash fruit has been very tender and pleasant. I have, however, noticed a few of the fruits being very dark yellow in color and the texture very "bumpy." Is this some type of disease or mutation, or a normal variation of the plant?

Answer
Ben
There are a virus diseases that may cause the "bumpy" texture. Using Google Images on your computer see some pictures of Squash Mosaic Virus, Watermelon Mosaic Virus for example. You can get some strange distortions as symptoms. You are right also in that mutations (genetic) can do this also.  A lab test is required to confirm a virus issue.
