Ripening Butternut Squash

Question
I live in Michigan and have a question about Butternut Squash. If Butternut Squash is picked a little bit before fully ripened, will it fully ripen over time when stored in the house?

Answer
John, yes it will. I always advise leaving the squash on the vine for as long as possible to enhance the taste and texture. But once frost threatens, the squash can be harvested early and left to ripen in the house. The process can be expedited by wrapping the squash in newspaper and keeping it in a cool dry area such as the basement. Just be sure to check it every couple of days or else it could rot.

Good luck, and please write again if I can ever be of assistance.

Regards,

Mike
