Lilac bush disease

Question
I have a lilac bush that was transplanted about 8 years ago.  It has done well, but flowered little.  This past fall, some of the leaves would look dry, curl up and then die.  The whole branch would eventually die.  I hoped that it was something that would go away over the winter, but it is happening again. he leaves turn dry looking, wilt, curl up and then die. I have tried some pest control spray and powder (seven), but this has not helped. thanks so much for looking into his for me!

Answer
Hi Kelly:

The tree really needs to be seen in person to determine the cause of leaf curl and dying branches. If individual branches are dying, there may be something going on on that particular branch.  Take a close look at those branches for areas where the bark may be loose or coming off.  If several branches are affected, there may be a more general cause like the roots or trunk areas. Be sure not to overlook the possibility of lack of water, especially if it has been dry/hot/windy where you live.  If needed, give it a good deep soaking. Put your garden hose under the drip line and let it rickle for 2-3 hrs, then move it to another area under the bush.  The Sevin product that you mentioned is an insecticide that is effective for certain insects.

Another option for you is that you talk to the folks at your local garden center/nursery about your concerns. They may give you some suggestions.
