Pheasant eating my flowers

Question
Hi Stephen,

I am a new gardener, trying to figure out what to do about a pheasant who's been visiting my garden on a daily basis.  I've been enjoying him all winter but have been getting increasingly annoyed with him when I discovered that he likes my flowers.  First, he ate all the crocuses when they came up.  Now, he's been after all the flowering plants I have recently planted in the garden.  Is there anything I can do about it - short of shooting the bird :) ?  Any advice you have would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Ewa

Answer
I would think netting would be the best method of control. At least until native plants produce enough food to occupy the bird. Hold it up with stakes to keep it off the plants.

I would love to get pictures of the damage and/or the footprints.
