Good Evening Stephen,

The problem that I'm having holes are appearing in my front yard.  At first it was one and know I have about five holes and it appears that the digging is from below the surface.  Could you please advise what type of animal could do so much damage and what I can do to stop such destruction.  Thanking you in advance.

Without knowing what part of the country you live in that will be difficult.

Holes appearing with dirt, can result from 13 lined ground squirrels, collapsed mole tunnels, and voles.
Since it doesn't appear that you have noticed animals, I would think it would be voles or collapsed mole tunnels.
