Mushrooms and powdery mold

Question
Lately I have had a large crop of mushrooms or tode stools show up in mt lawn. Now I see what looks like spots of grass or weeds that ar black. When I brush them with my shoe a black powder comes off.
What is wrong and what can I do?

Answer
Hi Doug;
Jeepers. do you have black mold on your lawn???
Clorox will kill black mold in the house, and whatever you have is certainly a mold, and mold if fungus, so spraying a fungicide to saturate it should get rid of it.
Clorox will kill fungus, as I said but I am not sure what it would do to your grass.
You might put about half a cup of clorox in a gallon of water, and spraying it on one area.Saturate well the grass and the ground.Spray a little on a healthy area of grass, to see if it is going to harm healthy grass. One thing about the clorox, you should see results in an hour or so, or sooner.If the healthy part you spray is not showing signs of damage in about 24 hours or so, it should be alright to spray the rest of the yard.
A good commercial fungicide should work too, and it won't harm the grass. When I used a commercial fungicide, I got good results with Funginex brand.
You  might want to call your County Extension Agent to make sure before you try anything. It may be a fungus that is not safe for other than a professional to handle.
I got black mold in my house, on a wall. I washed it down with clorox in water. Problem solved.I think the black mold scare is a hype for companies to make money for something you can do yourself. Any mold can make you sick. That stuff isn't safe to breathe in.
Fungicide should take care of the toad stools too. I spray my yard with baking soda disolved in water after our rainy season, for the mushrooms ( toad stools) that come up in my yard, when we have had a lot of moisture with cool temperatures.
Baking soda is a good fungicide, but it sounds like you have such a severe case of it, I think I would use a commercial fungicide or the clorox.
Let me know if you need more research on this.
