funky vine weed

Question
Hi Kenneth-

A few years ago when we moved from one house to another, we took the Stella Dora's that we had around our pool(sunlight all day).  We also had this nasty devil of a vine that would grow in with the stella's.  I thought that I had gotten it all in the move, but....there was one strand that I can't seem to eradicate.  I don't know what it is, but I would love to have this vine out of my stella's.  The issue is this...I have these stella on both side of my steps leading to my house, the vine has went under the steps..  Any advice/help would be appreciated.

Thank you for your time.
Deb

Answer
Buy a bottle of ROUND-UP at a garden center.

If you can, uproot the vine near roots (base) of daylilies, but this is not critical.

With a paint brush, a dish of round-up and a cardboard paper (to limit splashes) paint the leaves (as many as you can) of the vine. The herbicide is taken up through the leaves and will be translocated to the roots of the vine. It will prevent the vine from converting sun energy into plant energy; in effect starving the plant. This product does not translocate in the soil so you do not have to worry about the daylilies unless you spill the product on the daylilies.

Any runners below ground should die too.

Since this appear to be a very aggresive and tenacious vine, you may have to reapply this on several occations for 100% control, but with every application, you will gradually weaken the plant to the point of killing it.

Round-Up.

Kenneth
