vine control

Question
Last year I bought mulch and it must of had seeds in it, I am told some kind of wild morning glory. The vines grew quickly and had small white petunia like flowers.  I tried my best to control by hand weeding.  I thought I would use the mulch around my tomatoes and such. what a big mistake. Everywear I placed it I have a MAJOR vine problem. I placed weed cloth around my bushes and vegtable plants this year but the nasty things are growing under the mat and coming up and around every end and seam (even overlaped seams)I relly need to get rid of this problem. can you help?

Answer
you need to spray the vines while they are small w/roundup herbicide as per the labeled directions. buy it at a local garden center/nursery and ask them how to use it. only spray it on the foliage of the weed. it kills by systemic action. whatever touches the leaves of a plant will kill the plant. don't get it on the foliage of desireable plants as it will kill them. normally the problem is the seed will germinate in mulch and stone even if a weed barrier was used. you will need to respray periodically after new seeds germinate.
don't spray in the vegetable garden. you could use boiling hot water on the foliage of the weed in there. be careful. don't get any near roots or leaves of valuable plants (veggies). don't get burnt. hand remove weeds roots and all.
