dissolving sugar for dollar weed control

Question
Charlotte, I just read your post on dollar weed. Can I use regular white granulated sugar? Do I spread it on the lawn dry, or dissolve it and use a sprayer?
Mary Beth

Answer
Hi Mary Beth;
Plain old table sugar, just like you use to sweeten your tea.
I broadcast it by hand and then water it in.
The srticle I read said to use dry molasses, but granulated dugar if you couldn't find dry molasses.
The nurseries here didn't carry dry molasses then, and when they got it in, I tried it. I think the granulated is much easier yto use. I can just buy it wjen I shop for groceries, don't have to make a special trip to the nursery, and the bags of sugar are much lighter to handle than the 40 lb bags of dry molasses. The cost is just about the same. The result is about the same too.
Most everybody asks if it doesn't attract ants, but you water it in, so it disolves. I had ants before, but don't now.
The weed killers etc kill all the toads and gras snakes and lizards, and mine now have a healthy enviornment to live in, and they eat ALL the bad bugs better then the insecticides I used to use ever did.
Also, baking soda disolved in water, and sprayed on my plants keep away molds and mildew than the fungicides did.
I used to have to spray my roses once a month, and still got black spot, but since I have been using baking soda, I spray when there is new growth in the spring, and again after a heavy rain,if the weather is still cool enough for black spot to grow, and I get no black spot.
My lizards keep down aphid damage much better than the insecticides did.
I really like the organics program. So much less work, and so much less cost, and I don't have to worry about a child or animal being harmed by all theose poisons around.
I no longer use chemicals in the house either, and I have a bug free home.
I use herbs or other natural remedies to keep pests of all kinds away from my home, inside and out. Don't have to worry about termites, fire ants etc, and don't have roaches, ants, and spiders in my house.
Also, since I started the completely organics program, I seldom have an Asthma attack, and I use a little respirator about 1 per year, where I used to use at least one a month.
If you would like all there natiral repellants, write me, and I will be glad to share them with you.
Charlotte
