weed control for blueberries

Question
Tom,
we have several long rows of blueberries that is being overtaken by crabgrass. Pulling the grass out is no longer working. Is it ok to use a crabgrass preventer around the bushes? Also, is it ok to use sulfur this time of year to adjust the ph? We live a little north of Charlotte, NC

Answer
Hi Jean,
Thanx for your question.  You can put down horticultural cloth or plastic mulch which will prevent weeds from growing.  Here is a website from Washington State University regarding the use of herbicides with blueberries for weed control.

I hope this helps.
Tom
