2-4D

Question
I sprayed some grass to kill some creeping charlie. Now,the grass has died & turned brown.Could the 2-4D have killed the grass? Thanks!

Answer
Under certain circumstances, 2-4D can kill the green leafy growth, but the grass will regrow although the existing green growth has died (and can be mowed off). This especially if used in concentrated doses. If used at too high temperatures (above 80F) or when grass was otherwise stressed, it could potentially kill grass plants permanently.

I would recommend that you wait and see if the grass returns.

FYI, Creeping Charlie is best controlled with a so-called 3-way mixture of 2-4D, MCPP and dicamba (such as Trimec Classic, Ortho's Weed-B-Gon, etc). These formulars work well together. For creeping charlie, especially dicamba works well.
