Rodent tunnels

Question
All around my yard are these small holes.  I put water down one of the holes and it seems as though they all connect.  I flooded one of the holes expecting a critter to come out of another hole to no avail.  There must be 50 or so holes all around the yard.  What might this little critter be and how do I get rid of it?

Thank you

Answer
Hi Karen;
Could be a mole or a gopher, or, if you live in Texas, especially West Texas, it could be an armadilla.
whatever it is, sprinkle ceyenne powder down the holes and it will leave.
that stuff does the same thing to their little noses as it would do to ours to breathe it in, and they will move their village to where there is none.
with that many holes, i doubt it is Armadillas, there is ususally only 2 holes with them.
It could be a rat community.
Ceyenne pepper affects anything  that is fur bearing.
It won't kill or harm them, just irritate them enough to chase them away.
