How to get rid of this type of grass??

Question
Hi I have a thick bladed type of grass in my front yard that I don't want there and I have tried everything to get rid of it from Killex to weed and feed. It is light green in colour and almost the look of crab grass but single blades not clumps. The new blade comes from inside of another one and is smooth with a vein going down the centre of it. I've never had it before and now it is taking over my lawn in mostly the more shaded areas.  Can you please let me know what it is and how to get rid of it without having to totally redo my whole lawn.

Thanks
Mary.

Answer
It sounds like a perennial grass which will have same growing conditions as your normal grass, which means that anything which will kill this grass will also kill your lawn grass. You can spray with Round-Up and reseed. You can also try to "paint" leaves of this grass with a brush with Round-Up (try to avoid spilling on desirable grasses).

My guesses would be bermuda or johnson grass. The exact grass type will depend on where you are located.
