help w/ St. Aug lawn

Question
Hallo, I live in FL panhandle near water & have stressed St. Aug lawn. have many many bare patches. i have thrown good topsoil the past 2 years to help w/ growth, but no help. Yard has traffic, dogs, kids & Man. Is there another seed that will grow well w/ St. Aug to grow in bare spots or stick w/ St. Aug?  Thanks, Monica

Answer
Hi monica;
There are some grasses that will bear more traffic.
Some varieties of burmuda, and others.
You would need to check with nursrymen in your area to find out what is available there, and what does well there.
Whatever you put down, I would block off with temporary fencing etc to keep all those critters off it till it had a chance to get a good, deep root system.
You could have other problems too, like fungus, too much shade, etc.
when you water, water deeply, to a depth of at least 6 inches to estblish a good, deep root system.
Shallow watering makes the roots come close to the surface to get water, and that exposes them to all sorts of damage.
When they roots are 5 to 6 inches down, the grass will endure a lot more damage and bounce back from it.
