drainage problems on my lawn

Question
hello there i love my lawn and my question is everytime it rains my lawn gets flooded, just a slight down pour and there is puddles everywhere!I have been told there is alot of clay in the area where i live, would digging up my lawn and putting more top soil down be the answer, i have to do something as it turns into a mud heap at times.

Lee:

From your description, the yard appears to be uneven, holding water in pockets.  If the water does drain away, then you may be able to fill the low spots with soil and repair those areas with seeding.

If the yard holds water and does not easily drain, then regrading and resewing will be needed to move the water predictably off the lot.

If you have doubts about doing it yourself, contact a professional landscaper who knows about fine grading and drainage.

Best wishes.
