Burned lawn!

Question
Strolling through Home Depot I saw a very toll pile of bags of "Scott's Lawn Pro" Super Turf Builder on sale. While my wife was shopping I took myself time to read the instructions and then I decided to buy a bag after all it was written in big letters "Lawn fertilizer w/2% iron" and also "Apply anytime on any grass."
When I got home I spread it by hand over the lawn. Few days later my lawn was burned in the shape of the motions of my spreading that is, only at certain parts, probably where the fertilizer contacted the grass, I guess. Can you tell me if I did something wrong and if yes, what?

Answer
Hi Roscoe;
You didn't say anything about watering it in after you applied it.
If you didn't water it in well, of course it burned it.
If you did water, but not deeply, that may have been the problem. Maybe you just wet it up, and didn't disolve it into the soil.
Or, yopu may have gotten a little too much on the lawn.
That is the trouble with chemicals, besides all the detrimental health issues, if you get a tad too much, or don't wante enough after application, you can burn the heck out of your grass.
I always broadcast my fertilizer by hand when I used chemical fertilizers. I could get a more even coverage that way.
However, since i have been on an organic program, I don't have to worry about a possible burn.
Even if you don't put any water on the things you can put on your lawn, it won't burn. It may blow away though.LOl
Water the heck out of your lawn, soaking to a depth of at least 6 to 8 inches to try and undo the damage.
In a couple of days water it that deep again. You want to wash those chemicals out of your soil, or dilute them till they minimize the damage, if you haven't already killed it.
Go organics, and you will not have those problems anymore.
I have a much better lawn and garden, do much less work and hardly spend any money on it at all, except for more plants.
