Watering St. Augustine lawn

Question
Our property is a quarter of an acre (house is 1,750 sq ft).  We have a sprinkler system that uses reclaimed water.
For how many hours and for how many days a week should we be watering our lawn?

Answer
Hi Mary;
I don't know what settings your sprinklers are on, but you need about 1 inch per week, in late spring and summer. That would be one inch of water on a water guage, if you have one.
That waters to a depth of about 6 inches.
Deep watering like that encourages the roots to go deep, and that protects against heat, drought and cold dmage, and prevents thatch.
When our temps stay in the 100+ for several dasys, I sometimes have to water a litle in mid-week to get the moistur down where the roots are again.
But, generally, a seep watering like that, once a week, in the growing season, and less frequently in the dormant season, is enough to keep St. augustine and burmuda ( the two I have) growing and nice and green.
Allow for any rain.
