Answer
Hi Col;
YOU have a situation!!! LOL
Know what I think I would do?
I think I would lay down landscaping fabric all over, and overlap it a couple of inches, and then put good soil on top of that, THEN plant my lawn.
You may have to have some sand buldozed out to get it low enough to put the fabric and at least a foot of soil over it.
If you want to grow roses and other shrubs, I would put the soil at least 2 feet deep.
The landscape fabric would keep the good soil from sinking down and mixing with the sand too much.
The other alternative would be to build raised beds to plant things in, and lay some landscape fabric, then lay gravel and decorative stones.
Plant things that will naturally grow in a desert.
Sounds like you live out in the Monahans area.
I used to live in Midland. did a lot of my growing up years there.
