Epsom Salt

Question
Can you give me your opinion on using Epsom salt on lawns to green it up?  Is it safe?

Answer
Hi Pam;
A little of it will work, but even better is alfalfa meal.
Lava sand and Texas Green sand are good too. All these things are full of nutrients.
Epsom Salts is Magnesium Sulfate, so if your lawn is deficient in these minerals, a little epsom salts will help.
Ihave no idea how much to use, though, and I know you can over do it and do damage.
You can't do damage if you get too much lava sand, alfalfa meal or green sand.
You don't need a lot of alfalfa meal. The bag that weighs about 15 to 25 pounds is plenty to tret your lawn if it is about 4000 to 6000 sq.ft. and have quite a bit left over.
It is very light weight, so that light bag is about the same size as the large fertilizer bags.
almost as big as a bag of bark mulch.
You need to get it at a feed store that sells organic feeds etc, and some nurseries that sell organics.
Are you on an organic program now?
If not, and you would like a copy of my simple but effective organic lawn care program, write back, and I will send it.
