laying sod in wet conditions

Question
Hi Tom! We have completed 2/3 of laying sod in our yard. We had a delivery of 1500 sq ft delivered today, but the weather has been miserable. The recently prepped front yard is squishy and I am sinking in places. I know that I need to lay sod within 36-48 hrs, and am not sure that the weather will dry this out by then. It should not be raining, and close to 60 degrees tomorrow. Can I ammend the soil by adding peat, sand or more topsoil? What do you recomment?

Answer
Jennifer:

You are caught in the landscaper's dilemna.

If the front yard is too wet to walk on, you may have to wait until it is dry enough to lay sod.

Also, you can lay sod with some deviations in grade and correct with sand or soil later over the top.

The sod is expensive and you do not wish to waste it.  Do the best you can and correct the grade later.

Best wishes.
