WET YARD

Question
I recently fenced in my 200 X 75 foot yard.  I have two levels.  The lower level is very wet.  I plan to run french drains, but would like to plan some planting beds around the yard.  I need trees and shrubs that would soak up alot of the moisture as well as perennials.  I have two Labs that will use this yard more than me, and tend to chew on tree bark and rip off a leaf or flower at times, so the plants have to be non toxic to dogs and possibly beneficial to them if eaten. Any suggestions.

Answer
Hi Michele, check with your local nurseryman to see if these are hardy in your area.
Trees...willow, birch, bald cypress, southern magnolia.
Shrubs...Virginia sweetspire, some shrub dogwoods and willows.
Perennials...some iris, loosestrife, cardinal flower, mallows, cattails.
