seeding eisting st augistine lawn in Los Angeles CA

Question
I am designing a yard in LA, CA. We are taking out some plants and have
aprox 400 sq ft of area that we want to add some more grass to an existing
lawn. It is St Augisitine- not sure what variety. Could we put seeds down for
cool weather and put some malorginite down, also adding seeds to the
already existing area as well? Will that work? I cannot find the exact kind of St
Aug. and I really want it to flow. What do you think? Please let me know asap.
Thanx so much,
Alicia

Answer
Because time is of the essence here, take Thee to a Cooperative Extension office to identify this St Augustine variety.

The hybrids are generally superior to the seeded varieties and offer some other benefits that I will cover when I hear from you again.

You did not do a soil test, did you?  'tis another reason to take Thee to a Cooperative Extension service for a proper soil analysis.  How do you know you need Milorganite?  Did the soil test tell you that you need it?

I'm happy to get contact info for the Coop people if you need it.  To get this out to you, I'm sending it asap.  rsvp!
