sewing grass

Question
My yard consists of mud and weeds. What is the best way to get grass to grow?

Answer
Krystal:

If you have mud, then you must have had rain.  Fortunate after a drought year in the east.  I do not know where you live, so my advice will be limited.

You will have to wait until the ground dries sufficiently to allow either tilling or grading, or both.  After the soil is prepared and smoothed, you may sow grass or lay sod, depending on how quickly you wish the results.

Choose the type of grass you wish and plant it in the correct season for that grass.

For specific techniques on sowing or sodding, check with your local ag agent, who has a pamphlet on this topic.  This is a research question.

Best wishes.
