Karl Foerster Grass

Question
Tom
I bought this as it was hardy for where I live in western Canada.
I have seen it in peoples yards and it looks great.
I put mine in a raised half barrel planter.
Its May 12 and still no green sprouts.
I gave it a tug and it seems to be firmly rooted.
Is it dead because it was in a raised planter, or does it take a while to get going?
Thanks!

Answer
Hi Bud,
Thanx for your question.  If you gave it a tug an dit does not give at all my guess is the root system is still alive.  I have some ravenna grass that takes for ever to start sending out new green shoots and it is rated hardy to Zone 5.  Some of these grasses are very slow to emerge especially if you're in an area that gets cold winters.  I would wait a couple more weeks and if nothing then, the plant is probably dead.  It has been my experience though, that a lot of these grasses are just slow to emerge.  I hope this helps.
Tom
