grass dead or dont know the reason

Question
We got a new house with approximally 0.3 ace yard. Builder seeded fescue last year and dead out after month as we did not know how to take care. Last fall, I re- seeded all the patches. They re-grew the green. However, started last month, all my re-seeded patches are dead off though we fertilizing and watering regularly. The grass looks like green white mix with so many empty spaces ugly enough to see. There is nothing we have done wrong but grass is so much anger at us. It is under very sunny spot. Would you please offer any hint?

Answer
Hi there,

There could be many reasons for the grass dying. This is more than just a simple matter of fertilizing, mowing, and watering. Here are a few of the possibilities.

1) Dries out too quickly
2) Dog urine and traffic
3) Red Thread fungus
4) Dollar Spot Fungus
5) Insects
6) Poor soil conditions
7) Poor quality grass seed

I could list probably 10 more if I really spent some time on the issue, but without actually looking at the grass, I couldn't give you a solid answer. It takes a while to understand the differences between these problems. Right now, I'd recommend that you call in a professional and ask for his/her help.

Good luck.
