What is efficient and effective way to kill the weeds?

Question
QUESTION: I have 1.5-arc lawn in GA. Currently my lawn is yellow, dormant, like most of lawns in the winter season. The temperature is about 50s. But the lawn has lots of weeds with purple flowers. I used the Ortho Dial N Sprayer with the Weed B Gon concentrate to try killing the weeds but the result is not idea. The weeds are not dead though I sprayed the lawn several weeks ago. Can you tell me what type of the weeds most look like with purple flowers; what type of the applicator and product and how many times at least I should spray to get the most of the efficient and effective results to kill or control the weeds?

ANSWER: Hi Ray,

The Ortho Dial N Sprayer is a nice idea, but it doesn't truly let you know just how difficult it is to get a perfect application.

I'd recommend giving it another try, then waiting a few weeks. If it still isn't ideal, try 1 more time. It's often the case that several applications are necessary to get the job done. The marketing materials make it seem like "ZAP" the weeds are gone! The reality is a bit more tedious.

Hang in there Ray!

QUESTION: Do you mean what I am doing is the perfect way to kill the weeds and you have no other more efficient and effective way to kill and control the weeds?

Answer
There are many different ways to apply selective herbicides, which is what you are doing now. All of them work well if the application is done correctly. Sometimes, repeat applications are necessary.

If I'm understanding things correctly, you are not an experienced applicator. This means that your results will probably be less than perfect no matter which method you choose. That said, I'm recommending you stick with what you've been doing for a few more tries, as I think you'll end up with the results you've been looking for.

It's not a matter of whether or not there's a better way. It's a matter of how precisely you are able to perform the applications. You'll improve with time if you keep up with things.

Good luck!
