A brown fungus (?) killing my lawn

Question
Hi there:  I have some brown, low growing fungi (at least I think that's what it is) killing my grass rapidly.  They grow about 1 1/2 inches tall, and about the same across.  They look like decaying pine cones.  They have proliferated since the heavy rains we have had here on the Mississippi Coast.  They seem to have some sort of root system. The edges are jagged.  Do you know what these are, and how to eradicate them before the whole lawn is gone?   Help!  And thank you in advance for your assistance!

Answer
Google: Naematoloma fasciculare picture; and see if any of the images correspond to what you have on the lawn. It should go away when the conditions (temperature and humidity) become unfavorable for it. I do not expect that it will kill the grass but it can be toxic to you.
So please be careful.
