make concrete yard childrens area

Question
we have a small yard with a concrete ground and 4 walls around it, is there and way of creating a softer flooring without digging up all the concrete, i would like to make it into a little area my daughter can play in without worrying that if she falls she will seriously hurt herself. We also have two rabbits who like to hop around out there

Answer
Consider adding rubber mat tiles or rubber mulch.
You can buy rubber mat tiles at a playground supplier in your area or try the Internet.

Also some home stores like Lowes or Home Depot may sell interlocking puzzle shapes of rubber mats. Just make sure they are rated for outdoors. Rubber mulch may be available on line or at a local vendor.

Links above show you examples of both products.
Disclaimer: The extra safety the above products provide is not a guarantee. Your child may still get seriously injured if he/she falls from very high or if the mats are not thick enough or are displaced.

Personally , I hate rubber mulch because sooner or later it always ends up in the environment. Please only consider this product if the area is well contained and storm water run-off will not be able to slowly move bits and pieces over time.

Best of Luck, Play Safe!
