I am an ecological landscape designer, specialised in the reduction of 80% of water and maintenance. Therefore my imediate answer regarding the rubber mulch is definitely no, sorry!

There are many organic alternatives that actually benefit the soil, even just simple straw does a fine job as a mulch. Even the old classic pine-bark mulch will do a far better job.

Rubber is extremely toxic for the soil and un-necessary.
