landscape design around a wishing well

Question
Hello!  I have a large flat area of grass surrounding a brick, square shaped wishing well.  I need help creating the "shape" of the landscape design around this square 3'x3'square fixture that stands 7'tall. Should the border be scalloped or rounded to soften the square wishing well?  I'd like to plant iris, poppys, tulips, hostas, peonies, etc. in this large area. Any suggestions?
Thank you,
JoAnn

Answer
Hello,

Flower beds look good contained in irregular curves and that may be an appropriate shape for this setting if you desire an informal look. For a more formal look perhaps a square or some other kind of polygonal shape would be more appropriate or simply go with a round shape. Alot depends on what your house and the rest of the site looks like. If the general feel is formal then a formal design to the well would most likely be more appropriate, although formal can be mixed with informal, depending on the wishes of the client, the character of the site and the architecture on the site. Good luck. Let me know if I can be of further help.
