Vining Fig

Question
I don't think I planted my vining fig correctly because it doesn't seem to be doing anything yet and I planted 4 of them almost a year ago. I wanted the plants to grow on my block wall fence.  I live in southern California.  How do you plant a vining fig plant?

Answer
Jean,

First, I've got no experience with vining figs.  In fact, I've never even seen one... so whatever follows is worth a grain of salt...

My experience with grapes (vining fruit) has been that I don't get any satisfactory growth in a location until the third year.

And with transplants in general, the first year is often just spent adjusting to new conditions and recovering from the stress of the transplant.  I'd wait at least through the coming spring and summer before giving up on them.

Sorry not much help,
Mark in Portland
