chives

Question
I have a small indoor pot of chives that I snip alot for use in cooking. It never seems to grow but I guess thats because I am always snipping. It is about 3-4 inches high and at the base there must be 2 inches of dry growth mixed in with the green stalks.  If I took a tweezers and remove this, do you think it would grow better?

Thanks
Susan

Answer
Hello and Happy New Year! Cutting off the dry, dead roots will make the plant healthier and will change it's growth a bit. You should trim roots and repot every other year or year to keep up the healthiness of your plant and it's flavor. Also, the size of the chives is always a bit shorter when kept indoors vs. outside amd the size also varies with the different varieties!

Thank you!
