Removing dirt from under 40 yr old tree

we have a 40 yr old avacado tree in the back yard. I would like to remove about a foot of dirt under neath the tree, will that hurt the tree?

Hi there!

It will depend on how deep the roots are.
With a garden hose, try to wash off the dirt and see if there are any big roots exposed. Removing anything above five inches thick could be dangerous to the tree.

You could wash off the dirt and send me a picture of the whole area to be dug. Maybe I could help you better with that.
