grading a sloped lawn and adding a retaining wall

Question
hi,i have a pool with a fence around just the pool area.i had to raise the pool because of my sloped yard.now i want to fence in my whole yard.i want to bring up the grade of the yard so the fence does not sit so low and i have no privacy.so i want to raise the grade of the lawn from my house to the back.on one side of the pool i only have about 5 feet to the property line and about 5 feet on the back side so ineed a retaining wall on just those sides.the wall will start on the right side and curve to the back.i need to know how do i stop the wall because i dont want it to go all the way across the yard in the back.i want to just slope half of it like a run off.also do i put the dirt in first or build the wall.thanks

Answer
You can simply return the wall into the grade. Make a 90 degree turn and run the wall into the slope. Or you could build a small column as a nice terminus where you want the grade to run out.
Build the wall first and then place the dirt is best but you could really do it either way unless the slope is more than 36", then you may need some structural back fill behind the wall and reinforcing.

Good Luck
