lawn and grass seeding

Question
Hello,

I have a 2 ft. patio roof overhang facing west.  It's 7 ft. high.  I would like to grow grass underneath it.  Presently, I have a mulched bed, but it's becoming unattractive.  A nice swath of lawn would look better.

The area gets a fair amount of late afternoon sun.  Is it feasible to try and grow grass there?  Thank you.

Answer
Absolutely Joe. Shade tolerant varieties can do pretty well with even just a few good hours of sunlight per day. Your local garden center should be able to supply you with the best variety for your particular climate.

Just make sure you prepare the area with a minimum of 4 to 6 inches of good quality soil. You don't want lack of sunlight to be the only reason causing your lawn to fail.
Have you also considered a low maintenance alternative like decorative rocks and a couple of shrubs?
