Plants for screens

Question
Hello. Have a pool going in, need some ideas for good screen bushes to block neighborhood views. Any suggestions?

Answer
Hey, Mark.

Part of the answer will depend on where you are. However, I've seen good vegetation fences of oleander, hibiscus, boxwood, viburnum/hawthorn, pittosporum, ligustrum, natal plum, arborvitae, junipers, Italian cypress, and holly, but all of them will take a little time to grow. You could install some trellises with vines for fairly quick screens, something like morning glory, English ivy, trumpet vine, honeysuckle, jasmine, and wisteria.

Again, some of those selections will depend on where you are, sun/shade, hot/cold, wet/dry.

Also, if you're having the pool built by professional pool builders, ask them what kind of plants would be good. The best pool builders have answers for all your needs.

Another option is to ask your local mom-and-pop nursery owners. If they've been in business for a long time, they'll have some good suggestions, tool

And one last option is to stop by Borders Books and Music, Home Depot, etc., and look at their pool and landscaping books. You can get some good ideas from them and then use what works in your climate.
