Valve or cycle problems

Question
Jeff - I have a 4 valve (8 station) sprinkler system.  The 1st station comes on just fine; however, when it goes into station 2, station 1 still leaks water.  Station 1 doesn't completely shut off and leaks water throughout the duration of all the other 7 stations.

I unscrewed all the valves to see if anything was noticeable.  When uncovered, 3 of the valves have a small amount of water coming out of them, while 1 valve has none and makes a whisper noise as though it is trying to suck air or something.

Do you have any suggestions?  Thanks for your time.

Answer
Usually if a valve continues to leak after it is supposed to turn off there are two causes.  First, check the adjustment of the valve.  There is a flow control on top of the valve, open it all the way, then close it all the way counting the # of turns.  Then open the valve 1/2 of the way.  This is the most common adjustment.  If this doesnt correct the problem, then you probably need to dissassemble the valve and clean out the diaphragm (the rubber disk inside) or perhaps replace it if it is damaged.
