Water meter and irrigation

Question
Hello Matt,
I've just completed installing a new solenoid for my valve.  The old one had a bad male connector and the threading was rubbed off.  But anyway, once I placed the new part everything seemed to be working great.  My original problem was a valve that didnt fully shut.  How can I tell if my irrigation system is still leaking.  Could I look at the water meter?  If so then how do I read it.  I have a hersey meter and there is a dial that goes from 0 (12 position) to 9.  There is also a little red triangle in the corner of the meter and it turns around when ever the water is turned on.  Would this little triangle move around if there was water leaking from my sprinkler system?

Thanks for your help

Answer
Sorry for not answering sooner. I've been busy with, what else irrigation.
The triangle is the key. If you see it turning you are flowing water. Most meters register down to 1/4 gallon a minute. If you suspect the valve or valves are still leaking, your ears are you best tool. If you listen to the valves and they are passing a little water, normally you will hear it. Not always, but about 80% of the time. Good luck,

Matt
