Skunk Vine- Control

Q: Skunk vine is becoming a real gardening problem in south Georgia. It is spreading from the woods into and over our landscape plants (azaleas, Indian hawthorn and others). What can we do?

A: Glyphosate (Roundup, etc) will kill it, but this herbicide will kill ornamental plants living under the vine too. If you don’t have too much of the stinky weed you could clip it at the soil line and dab glyphosate on the stump so it doesn’t resprout. Otherwise, take a tour of your property every week with a sprayer of herbicide in hand. Natural controls may eventually be found….but for right now, only you are skunk vine’s enemy.
