What Is The Name Of This Plant? What Are The Care Instructions?

Question

Plant
Hi Rick,

Do you know the name of this plant? Also, what care instructions can you provide? I live in NYC, would the plant be fine here all year round (change of weather throughout the year)?

I don't know where, if anywhere, I can find the plant but I would like to get it in my hands. Its beautiful.

Any additional information is appreciated.

Picture is attached.

Thanks in advance.

I am not certain from only seeing one picture but it looks like a heart leaf Philodendron...Yours is the large leaf variety "Philodendron giganteum"...Type this name into your search engine and see if the pictures match your plant...

Philodendrons are not that hard to take care of as long as you do what is needed when it needs to be done...They are one of the easier plants to take care of...

Water by weight. Put a saucer under the pot. Water and let the plant sit in the excess water for 5-10 minutes...After that time pour off any excess water in the saucer...Pick up the pot. it should feel heavy...Don't water again until it feels considerably lighter in weight... Outdoors check the plant every 2-4 days...Indoors check it every 5-14 days...Watering frequency depends on many factors(sun exposure, type of plant, wind, day temps, etc.)...Indoor plants die from too frequent waterings - not from too much water at one time...

You need to add fertilize on a weekly to monthly basis during the growing season...Ask someone at your local garden center what to use and how to fertilize your plants...Ask them if they can order one for you if they do not already have one in stock...

Most indoor tropical plants don't like direct sun lite - just a bright location...Since they are tropical in origin they must have temps between 50-90 degrees...

Hope this helps...Let me know what you think...Good luck...
